Meet Mikala!

I knew this would be a fun and amazing day because Mikala is a DANCER. I love photographing sports and hobbies and in particular, I love to photograph BALLET.

Mikala loves modern dance so she wanted more of a juxtapose ballet image. She wanted her ballet shoes mixed with a favorite every-day outfit rather than a tutu or frilly dress. She chose her denim shorts and a plaid shirt and we shot several sequences by a pond and a dramatic area with pillars. She has been doing dance for years and wants to continue with it to some degree. I could see her passion for it in her graceful and beautiful dance moves while we shot the various sequences.

She also wanted a “country field” look so for her last outfit we headed to a nearby field (lots to choose from around those parts!). I am always so happy when moms say “yes” to the questions “can I shoot a few with you together?”. They typically never feel prepared or ready for it (unless it was part of the plan) but the outcome is always a beautiful mother-daughter portrait that will last for years. The one shown here ended up in their framed collage because it was one of their favorites! So happy for that.
