SENIOR FEATURE | DANCE INSPIRED | BALLET
“Practice like you’ve never won. Perform like you’ve never lost.”
This photo shoot was planned for many months — a street-style ballet project in downtown Sacramento with 2 of our 2015 high school senior models.
My vision was using the very gritty back-alleys and city-themed background combined with a lot of black-and-white shots. But I also envisioned a very juxtapose leather/tulle/tiara look with heels. Amanda and Sophia brought my vision to life with 2 looks using their tutus: glam/rock + pointe shoes and tiaras.
I wanted to photograph the love of dance set against the stark city scape. Downtown was the perfect setting for this and while I wanted some traffic and the hustle and bustle of the city, I also wanted wide open spaces without cards so Sunday evening was the perfect day of the week.
A NOTE ABOUT THIS SHOOT: I had a mood board with poses in mind including the city-scape shots. These were planned and practiced while on set but we also allowed for unplanned moments as well. The traffic shot was one of the unplanned moments, orchestrated by 3 of us watching the traffic flow with lots of patience to make sure there were enough cars at the stop-light on a Sunday evening!
